Sweet Revenge, A Review

Author Zoe Archer,  begins a brand new series with Sweet Revenge and while Revenge might steer the boat it's passion that fills the sails (yeah I know.. *rolls eyes* cheesy). Nope this isn't about ships... Nemesis is an organization that has been created to help those that can not help themselves. Those that are left to suffer the injustice of being poor.. they can not fight the upper class and do their best to just survive.

"When you need justice, and no one is willing to help, Nemesis, Unlimited delivers vengeance—at any cost."

Jack Dalton is a thug, there is really no other way to put it. He was raised in grueling poverty and he raised himself out of it by using his muscles. So although he is a thug, he is to be commended . until his sister was killed by his employer and all Jack wanted was revenge. Which of course when you try to joke a Lord to death in front of witnesses you are pretty much assured a trip to hell. Five years in an English prison and Jack finds a way to escape.. thinking his for is staying in the next town over he is committed to die. As long as he takes Lord Rockley with him.  With little time to plan and plenty of bravado Jack escapes Dunmoor Prison and is on his way.. Only when he gets there something totally unexpected is waiting for him.

Eva Warrick is the daughter of missionaries, she has spent her entire life in service to the poor. When Nemesis came calling she saw it as the perfect opportunity to further her beliefs. A way to serve the poor in a way that truly matters.. She stands alone when it comes to her personal life and no one from Nemesis crosses those boundaries.. Until she meets a bruiser named Jack Dalton. From the beginning she knew there was way more to this man than just brawn..

This book makes you think.. It is not an easy read but it is an excellent one. Some books no matter how large can be zoomed through this is not one of those. Be ready to take your time.. and be enthralled.

Nemesis is on a mission to take down Lord Rockley and they need someone who knows him well to help. Jack Dalton is the ONLY employee that has left Rockley's service alive.. and that was just luck. The team plants the seed that Rockley will be nearby and waits to see what Jack would do. When he shows up in the dead of the night ready for revenge they know they have their man.

This is a great story of growth.. Jack is so much more than a thug but it takes time and the respect of Eva to bring out more in him. He slowly realizes that there is much much more to life than just revenge, there is justice.. and with the team he finds a better man as they work together to bring down evil.

The male members of the team do not like Jack initially he is crass, vulgar, blunt, brash, etc.. but over time they too realize that there is just so much more to him and slowly ever so slowly friendships develop.

I liked Jack's heart.. he truly cares for women and it show in the way he deals with them. He loved his sister and was devastated when she turned to prostitution and when she was murdered he honestly felt his death was worth it if he was able to avenge hers. Seeing how he interacts with other women is a true joy..

This is the first book in this series and honestly, you want to get in on the series now it is going to be one of the best ones out there..

Billion Dollar Cowboy, A Review

Carolyn Brown starts her new series Cowboys and Brides off with a wonderfully sweet story of finding true love in spite of life. Billion Dollar Cowboy takes that what if you win the lottery question and turns it into an excellent story.

Laura Baker is the responsable sister. Even though she is younger something happened on the day they found out that social services was going to seperate them. She found her fight.. and no one was going to take her sister away from her. Through out the rest of their lives Laura protected and Janet screwed up. Now things are tough and Laura can not help her. Janet needs money to pay gambling debts and Laura who has just lost her job can not figure out a way to help her. Until she calls in a favor to the only cousin she has contact with. He agrees to help her but on his terms and they are tough... No contact with Janet, whatsoever, Janet goes to GA and Laura goes to work for him..

Colton Nelson was 28 when he won the Texas Lottery.. I just loved that line from the description so I sorta stole.. um borrowed it.. Colton Nelson is an everyday man who now has the ability to live the life he dreamed. Going from Cowboy to Rancher with one lucky payout. It doesn't hurt that his best friend and financial advisor is brilliant and has turned his million dollar payout into a billion dollars. It gives him the ability to support his family and be the man he wants to be. What he doesn't want to be is harassed and harangued by the female population.

When Laura comes to work for his financial advisor, his family puts together a scheme that throws the two of them together forcing them to get to know each other on an honest level and to learn what real love is. Laura has some surprising help from her sister Janet who comes across as the hard edged gambler she is and yet she does love her sister.. Colton on the other hand has a rather quirky cast of characters that he calls family and it's wonderful to see them want to protect him but still want him to have a real life with real love.

A wonderful beginning to this series and I can't wait to read more about these Cowboys and their Brides..

Dire Distraction, A Review

Ok, this is me complaining.. Oh not about the book but about why I have never heard of this series before.. Seriously I came into this series in the friggin SEVENTH book!! And I think it is probably the last one.. grrrrrrrrrrr I am totally and completely irked.. *steps down from soapbox and returns to the regularly scheduled review*

Have you read Dee Davis? Have you managed to bask in her brilliance? If not, you are gonna have the same reaction I did.. How did I miss this author?? How did I miss this series? And how soon can I get the rest of her books?

For the Roses, A Review

This book is so special and has so much to offer, Carmen is going to review it in two parts... Part One today and the rest next Friday...

"This book is starting off too slow..."  "I'm surprised it's not grabbing me like Garwood always does..."  Blah, blah, blah was all that translated to Shauni!  I should have known better. :D  Unsurprisingly, not only have I fallen absolutely in love with this book (I'm not finished quite yet -- I am writing a 2-part review!), I remain an ardent fan of Ms. Garwood.  Seriously, this lady rocks!!!

Lover Be Mine, A Review

I Find it hard to believe that this was my first ever Nicole Jordan book. Lover Be Mine is the second book in her Legendary Lovers Series.. Basically each couple takes on the role of a famous literary couple. In book one Princess Charming.. The leads follow the story of Cinderella complete with wicked stepmother and life that could be a dreary existence. In Lover be Mine we see strains of Romeo and Juliet.. well the Montagues and the Capulets.. One can only hope that the characters don't die..

As the wickedly seductive Wilde cousins seek true love by taking a page from history's legendary love stories, Lord Jack Wilde plays a determined Romeo courting an enchanting Juliet.

I had to actually research Vicky Dreiling's books before I figured it out.. Saying that I am thrilled that I did not put this book aside!!

Who Wants to Marry a Cowboy, A Review

Who wants to marry a cowboy? I do, I do... LOL sorry the question had to be answered. I admit it, the reason I chose to read this book from netgalley was the name. Oh and it takes place in Wyoming, my current fantasy place to live. Normally I would have by passed it and that would have been a sad thing. Abigail Sharpe writes a fun, creative book with lots of shenanigans, family disputes, back stabbing, evil witches (couldn't say the B word but it's implied) and some serious get a clue moments..
