Why Men Should Read Romance Novels

I found this article online, and wondered how many of you agree with the author.

The title : Why Men Should Read Romance Novels by Deanna Wadsworth, caught my eyes, but the premise involves....that if the man read romance novels, his partner would have a better ....sex life. That the 'man' in the relationship, would some how take on the 'persona' of the hero in the novels. He would 'emulate' the actions of the male.

I offer this up for your perusal.

Fifty years ago, no man in their right mind would have been caught dead walking around in public with a baby carrier and infant on his back. Men got their hair cut at a barber not a beauty shop. Twenty years ago, there were no Father Changing Rooms. But these days everyday sights no one looks twice at now.

So, why do men still refuse to read romance novels?

Stereotype, for sure, is a big part of it. Plus, they assume it is all--"Oh John!" and "Oh Marsha"--.And well? Sometimes it is, LOL. But we romance and erotica readers know there is something more to it.

If you're a man reading this blog, I can almost hear your guffaws of laughter. But before you start grunting, scratching your balls and watching football to prove to us how manly you are, I would like to share a few reasons that might have you thinking twice.

If a man doesn't know how to talk to a woman or wonders why his wife always has a headache, perhaps he should delve into our secret world of a romance novel. They are written in deep POV, revealing all of our secret emotions that we feminists would never voice aloud.

Inside a romance novel lies a hero every woman wants.

Now, I'm not talking about muscles and sword fights or 100 year old vampires. (She isn't?) We know it is a fantasy (We do?). Kinda like the bikini posters you like to ogle. Men love their girl to look pretty on their arm, high heels, make up etc. Women also have a fantasy that is innocent but based in our root desires. We find the fantasy fulfilled in romance novels. And what draws us back time and again? It is the way a hero TREATS our heroine. The romance hero is respectful, kind. He protects the heroine and is tough, yet he respects her mind, her wit and her opinion.

Not to mention the stories in a modern romance novel are fun, exciting and sexy. It should be an added bonus that the book might help you understand what is going on in these crazy minds of ours.

And let's not forget the benefits of reading EROTICA.

(This is where the laughter begins anew. Laughter more than likely born out of threat and overcompensation)

I am not necessarily suggesting you take notes while reading erotica--um, wait a minute! Yes I am . Trust me, if more men read erotica they would have a whole lot happier wives.

You get your hair cut at the beauty shop, you pick up your kids from school and your have seen more chick flicks than you care to admit. Maybe in 20 years this self-imposed taboo will be a thing of the past too. So take the next step in pleasing and understanding your woman.

Read a romance novel. Are you man enough?

So I wonder, how many of you believe you would have a more fulfilling sex life-romantic life if your mate/spouse/other half read romance novels, instead of the latest car magazine? AS the picture above shows...is the 'ultimate' attraction for a man...his NEW car or the woman in the bed beside him? Or would reading the romance/erotica novel together put some spice back into the bedroom?

  1. Interesting article Sandy. I am late getting to BR and am rather surprised no one else wanted to jump in.

I believe some men are reading PNR romance and are very interested in it.

I found this from amazon in "customer discussion:romance novels for men":(James M. Sloman) I am a man and I read romances. Mainly Vampire romances. I've always liked vampire literature and I found good reads in romance novels. You may want to try J. R. Ward's novels of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Lyndsy Sands Argeneau novels, as a start.

(MazeyDaze) Hi, I'm female, but my husband often reads some of my romance novels.
He likes Jim Butcher and surprisingly (to me anyway) Karen Marie Moning's 'Fever' books.
He also reads Sherilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series.
Speaking of the Dark Hunter series, several men read them. When 'Devil may Cry' came out in paperback, two MEN in the book aisle of the local grocery store had a huge fight over which one was going to get the last copy that was on the shelf.
