Remember there are no rules, you can Write Whatever strikes your fancy.
The Question I have for you today is... What are your reading confessions?
I have a few;
I can not read the classics. I know, I know, for shame right? I have tried several times to read Wuthering Heights and can not get past page 10. Same goes with any Jane Austin book. For some reason nothing sticks with me. I find that I read the same sentence over and over again. I hate that I try to get my hands on anything paranormal and have read most everything in the YA section of my library, but I get lost when people start talking about the Bronte sisters. :(
On my book shelf, where most people would have Gone With the Wind, Pride and Prejudice, Scarlet Letter, A Tale of Two Cities proudly on display, I have Harry Potter ( although I believe that will be a classic one day ) Twilight, Everything that is Sherrilyn Kenyon as well as Christine Feehan. I do own some of the classics..they are just on the bottom shelf.
Another confession is:
If I am so completely into a book and I don't want to put it down, I am not above faking having a stomach ache so I can hide in the bathroom and read even more of the story. My husband actually caught me just sitting in the bathroom one day and his only reaction was "Wow, Lis, you have a problem." Ahahahaha! Hey, I have to know how it ends. :)
So I ask all of you lovely people, What are your reading quarks and confessions?
Have a great day!
Lisa :)

Most of my classics are on the top shelf of the bookcase in my office... they are all HC and look very refined and untouched. Have I read them? At some point or another, yes. Did I like them? Sure, I love comedy. Not that they are not well written (but the comparisons between our societies and theirs, priceless). Do I read them today? Well, I need a ladder to get them, what do you think?
ReplyDeleteAhahahaha! Mary-Ann! So happy to hear that I am not alone!
DeleteSchool did make me read a few of the classics, and some of them I did like, To Kill a Mockingbird ( I still love that book ) Frankenstein...eh.. it's okay for me, 1984... I think I liked it.. I can't remember now. But yeah, I like to laugh too!
I read plenty of the classics throughout my younger years. That is how I kept my family from giving me grief about my reading choices.. I said I had read more of the classics than most so leave me alone. Of course I would then point out that many of the classics ie Frankenstein, The Count of Monte Cristo... were all considered hack and were produced in serial form in newspapers that would compare to today's National Enquirer..
DeleteDon't tell anyone but I seriously hated To Kill a Mockingbird, second worst book every written.. first.. The Grapes of Wrath grrr FOUR chapters of description with no dialog to describe the dust bowl.. It was freakin dusty..
BUT I loved Pride and Prejudice and most things Jane Austen.. Adored all of Alexander Dumas' work both the son and the pere.. Enjoyed Machiavelli, Dante, Cervantes and Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe.
I make a resolution every year that for every fun book I read I will read a classic.. yeah never happens but I do read some every year.. Edification and all that
I can't get into the classic either I think I read Mutiny On The Bounty. LOL Can't read anything Shakespere have never read Romeo and Juliet. I don't have to hide to read Lisa, but when a book grabs me I have stayed up all night reading it and takes a couple of days to catch up on sleep. This happens often when I get a new CF book. LOL
DeleteI have never read or tried to read Grapes of Wrath. I tried to read Treasure Island, and failed misserably.. tried to read A Night to Remember...again a no go.... Utopia... fail... Lord of the Flies...fail...
DeleteI did read King Lear (sp?) by Shakespere but I read it along with a Cheat guide so I knew what the heck was going on...wait I think it was Edipus...ah! I cant remember but, I know it was in school and if the teacher wasn't telling me what was going on I would have been so lost.
There are a few series' that claimed my sleep hours from me. Harry Potter, duh, Twilight (again duh ) Succubus by Richell Mead, Fifty Shades of Grey, All of the Drake sisters by CF... well I guess most of the boooks demand all of my free time! Ahahaha!
Good for you Shauni for reading things just to get people to shut the hell up! I knew we were friends for a reason! ahaha!
Oh I did read Dantes Inferno in college and I liked it a lot!
I'd like to say I would have picked up on the classics on my own, but let me be honest and say it was required in my college courses. Do I love them? Most, but not all. I do love Shakespeare, Taming of the Shrew is my fave, Austen's made me swoon, Greek literature, etc...but it's been soooo long (I graduated in 1995!), I couldn't give you a glowing review if you asked. ;) Let's call our tastes eclectic! :D
ReplyDeleteI say that's a Great idea Carmen! A girl that Wise to babysit my kids said that they had Twilight as required reading in school. Now I love Twilight as much as the next girl, buuuut required reading??? Really? I had to read, The Great Gadspey, and Johnny Trumaine, plus like all of Shakespeares greatest works! They are reading Twilight???? It Just doesn't seem to fit. Maybe I would have actually read a book in high school if we read a single paranormal book, other than Frankenstein that is.
DeleteOh my Gosh Johnny Tremaine.. I thought only I had to read that book.. LOL
DeleteThe thing about twilight.. it's one of those get the kids to read books so I can see them making it mandatory.. Reminding kids that reading is *gasp* fun.. Also they could read it and compare it to literary classics..
Now there's a thought for a post.. what classics can you compare Twilight to
