Father's Day

Father's Day has always been a very special day for me. I was raised by a single father who faced every challenge I threw at him head on and with grace that still astounds me to this day. Because it was just me and my dad, two peas in a pod, for so long, I believe that we were able to form a bond that not everyone has the privilege to attain in a lifetime. Here are a few amazing things about my dad:

When I was eight I had long hair and it was a pain to deal with, my dad would go through an entire bottle of No More Tangles spray just to brush it out so I wouldn't be in any pain.

He would always get me the exact barbie or doll that I asked for for my birthday no matter what it was always there. And he would always play with them with me.

He would make everything we did into a game. Even something as mundane as putting our seat belts on. Everything was a race and I loved it.

When it was time for me to start wearing bras he sent me shopping with my grandma! Ahaha!  But he still made sure I got what I needed.

He never ever said a single bad thing about my mother, ever. He always made sure to tell me that she loved me and to respect her. He is kinda amazing like that.

He would always give me money even when I had a job and made my own money.

When I was first learning how to drive he would make me drive everywhere, even on the highway ( I am from Atlanta! ) He would just say, "well you got to learn sometime, why not now?"

He always says "You are responsible for your own feelings, no one else." I live by that.

He tells me he loves me everyday that I talk to him.

When I told him that I was getting married at 19 years old, he simply said, "Okay, let's plan a wedding."

The day before my now husband got into town for our wedding, my dad took me out to dinner and said, "Things are going to change, but I want to have this last dinner with you before it does."  I think about that dinner all the time.

Dad's are truly a special thing on this earth. I know that my dad is the biggest part of who I am today and I hope and pray everyday that I am half the parent that he was to me.

I love you daddy, love Lis

Okay now let's look and see some quotes that other people have to say about dads and their greatness.

I know that some of you out there play the role of both mom and dad, and I comend you for doing that! I have seen how a parent strives to be everything their child needs. So to you I say,  Happy Father's Day as well! For all of the wonderful fathers out there, thank you for your love and guidence.

Have a happy Sunday to you all!

  1. Well I know your dad will cry when he reads this! I almost started crying : ) One can only hope that their child would feel the same way about their father. He has clearly shown you the love and respect that every man should have for their child. Happy Father's Day Jeff!
