Series Chat, Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling Series

Since I know of at least two people who are currently reading this series, I thought I would offer them a forum for discussion.

If you haven't yet read Nalini Singh's Psy/Changling Series, you may want to be careful of reading the comments section because there may be spoilers..

For those of you who aren't sure what this series is about.. well here is a

Brief Synopsis:

The Psy-Changeling series is comprised of paranormal romance novels set in an alternate universe, on earth, in the late 21 century; and is written by Nalini Singh. The alternate earth described by Singh, is populated by three major races: Changelings (Shapeshifters), Psy (Humans with psychic powers who are conditioned from birth to have no emotions), and Humans. Due to their psychic powers and lack of emotions, the Psy are largely in control of the world; and by extension the Psy Council, which governs the Psy race, is the most powerful ruling body. The overarching series’ story describes the struggles between the Psy Council and other various groups (who include humans, changelings, and some Psy). Each book in the series features a different hero and heroine.Romance Wiki

READING ORDER

Currently there are 14 books, novellas and free short stories in this series.. a suggested reading order from Nalini's website

"There is a slight difference between the published order and the chronological order of the stories in the series when it comes to the novellas. I tend to write my novellas about secondary characters who were introduced in previous books - and quite often, this leads to the novella being set back in time. These novellas are all written to stand alone, but for those of you who like to read in strict chronological order, here it is:

1. "Beat of Temptation" in An Enchanted Season
2. "Whisper of Sin" in Burning Up
3. Slave to Sensation (First Actual Novel)
3.5 "The Cannibal Princess" - free short story
4. Visions of Heat
5. Caressed By Ice
6 . "Stroke of Enticement" in The Magical Christmas Cat
7. Mine to Possess
8. Hostage to Pleasure
8.5 "A Gift for Kit" - free short story
9. Branded By Fire
10. Blaze of Memory
11. Bonds of Justice
12. Play of Passion
13. Kiss of Snow
14. Tangle of Need" Nalini's Behind the Scenes Page

The Great Evil?

One of the best things about this series is the fact that Nalini has created a council of villains  We are never quite sure who is evil, who is sort of evil, who is really fighting for good and of course who is just pragmatic and fights for themselves this unit of evil is called the Psy Council

 Fun Info:

If you are reading or want to read this series.. or soot have read this series and haven't made it to Nalini's page yet you really should. Nalini has a great extra page that offers, book order (which I um borrowed) insights on how she came up with this concept, behind the scenes info and faqs.. It is really worth the time visiting just to see what Nalini has in mind for us.

 EXTRA STUFF:

She also has some amazing Deleted Scenes from several of the books.. These are powerful moments that didn't work with the book they were supposed to be in but have an impact on the characters. Have some fun check out her page.. or just stay here and discuss things with us.. Better yet...DO BOTH!!

I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this fabulous series.. Get to reading the next book comes out soon!!

  1. Lisa has reinvigorated my desire to continue this series and with the new one coming out...it's perfect timing.

I know that the Ghost has everyone talking, but since it was just introduced in Judd's book, where I happened to leave off, I'm not doing the head spins over its revelation (I'm sure due to my still too early place in the series).

I will say that while I loooooved Lucas and Sascha, and it was the reason behind continuing the series, the next book? Vaughn's, I believe? That one fell utterly flat for me. I could not care less for either character. Having said that, Singh came back in ferocity, IMO, with Judd!!! He STILL makes me swoon!!!

About 10 pgs away from finishing one book...and back to the Psy/Changeling series I go!

    1. So you liked our boy Genius? I giggled everytime Tally called him that.. Yeah I know that was more in Mine to Possess but still some great scenes. And she continues to call him that throughout the series *grins* I can not believe you have gotten this far and this is the first I have heard of it...

    3. I have loved this series probably from the first word. There are just some that grab ya..

It was so cool that Nalini was at RT last year and I was able to meet her.. I went to two sessions that she was on the panel for and she had an amazing amount of information to share. She is the one who gave me a real comprehensive concept on how to world build

Here we go. I just finished Mercy and Riely's book last night....um effing amazing! Holy crap that book is one of my favorite books period! Mercy is so funny! I was laughing out loud a lot! From begining to end it was so wonderful! I loved how our first scene was of them "scratching and itch" what a great way to start a book about shifters who crave touch at every turn.
Dorian's book did touch me on a profound level but I believe that so far Mercy has taken the tortch of my favorite book so far.
I tried to start Dev's book, but I just don't care about him or the main female character. Someone tell me if I am being crazy? I want to just skip ahead to Hawkes book. I almost did. I started to read it last night and then talked myself out of it.

I need someone to convince me that Dev's book and the rest of the books for that matter are still as great as the others! Help!

    1. I actually agree with you.. both Dev's book and Max's book is was pretty eh for me. BUT they are important to the over all story arc. Of course once you read them 1 or 10 more times you begin to appreciate them. And you never know the importance these characters may play later on.

In all honesty, I had to re read Hawk's book before I fell in love with it. Not that it wasn't awesome but Nalini changes up the way she put the book together. It had way more going on in it than just Hawk and Sienna.. I was at first irked by that.. then when I went back and read it.. yeah.. smokin!!!

    1. Seriously? Did you just ask me that? *rolls eyes, takes a deep breath then..* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO those two books are important.. and there are some good parts to them. You just have to work your way through them..

    2. I'm glad I stuck to reading in order. It took me a while to get into Dev's book. But I loved the ending! I was balling like an idiot! Such a great book

    3. I KNOW!!! I didn't want to say anything but yeah... that was sooooooooo *sigh*

  7. And I'm back! Max's book was okay for me. I will probably never reread it. It was lacking something that I have come to expect in this series. Every book after Max's blew my mind and I love every page. I didn't mind how she started giving us more insight on what is going on with all of the characters that we have come to love. I do feel like we have had enough of the wolves for a while. I miss the cats!
I still think that the Ghost is Kaleb. I don't know why. But I just think it is him.
I hate that I read the series so fast and now I have to wait for the next book to come out! Ugh!
Seanna...LOVE HER!!! KIT KISSING HER! BAHAHAHHAA!!! That whole sceen had me laughing my ass off
Drew and Indy! Lord I loved their book!!! I thought Drew was going to commit murder when Indy was all over Riaz
So glad someone told me to read this series :)

    1. I thought that about Max's story as well and I have read it least often.. It is important to the overall arc but I wanted more for him.

I also agree about the cats.. I am seriously missing those cats.

Seanna did try to get under Hawke's skin.. but she also made a major effort to be a teen as well. I really liked her

I enjoyed Drew and Indigo.. but they weren't my favorites..

When I first read Kiss of Snow, I was upset because the story line really branched out.. but upon re reading I loved it. It's funny after Tangle of Need, which was written the same way, I felt going back to the original way she wrote would be boring.

Oh yeah, it's Kaleb!! Well I think it's Kaleb. Although that may be too obvious. You have to go back and see what he was doing anytime the ghost happened. Nalini said she worked really hard to make sure the ghost was never anywhere else when she wrote it.. For instance and example:
Say, Kaleb is meeting w/the council when the ghost appears.. then it couldn't be Kaleb. If you had the time you could cross reference all the scenes you might have a better idea. *grins*

The wait for who the Ghost is, reminds me of when Kenyon was writing about Lexi.. she teased us horribly about who was going to be in the next book..

Glad some brilliant person recommended this series to you as well.

    2. Because I knew the whole Who is The Ghost thing was a big deal later on I tried really hard to pay attention through the series. I am pretty sure that Vasic is out. Same goes for Aden. Judd *swoon* knows who he is. I feel like I will be very suprised if it isn't Kaleb. Especially when he just found a female he has been searching for. It just seems like he is the ghost. Watch it be Faiths dad!

When I jumped on the Kenyon train. No Mercy had just been released. So this Styxx book is a big deal for me.

I did love Lexi and Dangers book though. A lot of crap happens in that book. And I was so pissed when Danger died!

When does the next P/C book come out?
