What Was that Book Called, Contest

This is a quest.. and as with all quests there is a prize to the winner. In this case.. I am offering a 10.00 Amazon Gift Card to the person who can answer this all consuming question...

What Was that Book Called? Easy-Peasy right? Yeah.. it's a tricky one..

In the 1970's early probably 72 or 73, there was a children's book.. I got it from that monthly book club that was offered in schools back then. It was one of my favorites and I had saved my copy for years.. then because of some storage issues I lost much of my childhood.. *groans* lost everything else in storage years later.. back on track..

This book was about a girl who found her way into a secret kingdom, she met a friend (a young man I think) who told her fantastic stories about true love, secret ambition, sneaky evil faeries who wanted to marry the prince and much more. I only remember snatches of it now.. but part of it was the fact that the heroine was turned into an ugly purple faery while the evil girl attempts to woo the prince.

Vague enough for you? Yeah me too.. I will add info as I remember it and since I am seriously looking for this book, the contest will remain ongoing until the title is found..

*** Eligible to US readers only********

    1. She is such a jelly belly!

The amazing thing about Lisa's guess is the fact that this book has plots, subplots, amazing characters and intricate design. I posted next to nothing about it.. I actually had a second post scheduled with a bit more information because I thought no way did I have enough.. and yet with in a day Lisa guessed it.

I think this book had more impact than I realized. Since I come from a non fantasy, non romance type of family I forget that there is an entire world out there that reads it. I do know that even as a child I had discriminating taste. Ok, I would read whatever I could get my hands on but I was very select in what I LOVED!!
