Poison Princess, A Review

Kresley Cole, has taken the plunge into the wonderful genre of YA novels and it has more than paid off! Poison Princess is the best YA book I have read since the Golden Lily. Poison Princess is the first book to the Arcana Chronicles and such a great book!




Evie is finally back home in Louisiana after a brief stint in the nut house. Yep, you heard me. Evie was seeing visions of death and destruction and blood. She was breaking down and no one could help her. She finally found a way to handle the visions and realized she was just crazy. They were not premonitions of things to come. But why did they feel so real? Now back at school and on top of the world Evie feels like things can turn back to normal. She has the Quarterback boyfriend and she is about to turn 16. Things are looking up.

Enter: Jack Deveaux
The state has made a highway that cuts through the bayou and directly to the suburbs. Now it is more practical for the Cajuns to go to school with Evie and all of her rich friends. With the Cajun's messing up the harmonious flow of the school it is easy for Evie to get distracted by the amazingly good looking Cajun who makes her think things that she has never thought. Jack is the epitome of a bad ass. The ultimate bad boy who every young girl dares to wish he would notice her.

The world is in ruins. Now time is identified as BF ( Before Flash) and AF ( After Flash). On the eve of Evie Greene's 16'th birthday the sun literally scorches the Earth and claims the lives of anyone who was not in proper shelter. It also claims the lives of nearly all livestock and vegetation. Now eight months AF, the survivors not only have to worry about the food and water that is quickly drying up, they also have a militia that is sweeping through the United States forcing people to join or to die. AND, they are stealing all of the surviving females. As it turns out, females are hard to come across AF. There is disease that claims the lives of females who survived Flash.

When tragedy strikes Evie she has to make a huge decision that will forever change her life. She has to decide if she can trust anyone in this horrible world of AF. With the visions coming back in full force Evie has the terrible feeling that her pains and fears have only just begun.

Kresley Cole has taken this popular idea of a post-apocalyptic world and given it this completely new idea around it. Never have I read anything like this book. The main story is so intriguing. As soon I finished this book I was googling everything I could find on the principles of Arcana and the beliefs behind the tarot cards.

Read this book! Fall in love with this story and the amazing characters that Cole has given us. I have not stopped talking about this book! It is so wonderful. October can not come fast enough for the next book in this series.
