Midnight Lies, A Review
I fell in love with the town of Midnight in Ella Grace's first book of the Wildfire Series Midnight Secrets. I am happy to say my love remains strong with the second book Midnight Lies. The lives of three sisters, triplets was irrevocably changed with the Murder/Suicide of their parents.. in Midnight Secrets we learn about what really happened that night. But although things have been resolved the event has changed the lives of these three women forever. Each grew to adulthood dealing with life's tragedy in a different way. Savannah was painfully shy and hid behind her intelligence. Samantha had an easy smile and let few past that smile to see the pain beneath and Sabrina is brash and well wild.. yet to each other they remain their sole support. As life moves on these girls have grown into women and their stories are told by Ms Grace (aka Christy Reece). And told brilliantly.
Quinn Braddock is a brilliant ER doctor, dedicated, controlled and sexy as hell. He has spent his life trying to live beyond expectations of his status crazy family. Secure enough in who he is to know he has to live up to his expectations not those of others. One small mistake was his marriage.. when his wife told the struggling doctor that she was bored while at work, Quinn suggested she get a job or a hobby something to help fill her time. Well, she got a hobby alright.. it just didn't quite fit in with her vows of fidelity. Quinn managed to extricate himself from his marriage and while he wasn't angry or bitter he did shut off more of himself. Not wanting to ever fall into that trap again. But now, he is happy in a steady relationship with a beautiful woman and the sex crazed ex is calling.. holding a family heirloom over his head Quinn goes to her house.. only to find her dead and somehow he is the only suspect. But Samantha will stand by him, right?
Samantha Wilde is in love.. Honest to goodness love.. Finally she has met a man who she can spend the rest of her life with. Knowing he doesn't want marriage and kids is hard but she figures she can change that. They haven't been together that long. But when she is called from a day in court to the station to find out that her lover is the only suspect in a brutal knifing, Samantha isn't sure what to believe. After all she thought her father was a nice guy too.. Her momentary doubt destroys Quinn and any chance for happiness is soon destroyed.. Samantha may have doubted Quinn but she still wants the facts..
Samantha and Quinn have some pretty serious issues to overcome.. Dealing with the murder of an ex is always hard, knowing it happened just moments before he arrived is another thing. Their actions pull them farther apart and Samantha returns home. Starting up a security business with her sisters.. the Ex Prosecutor, the PI investigator and Samantha the ex cop.. They even have their first case! But before things are even getting off the ground Quinn is back and a series of questionable events occur.
Who is responsible for the things going on? Is it someone from their case? Is it a disgruntled resident of Midnight? Is it someone new to town or is it Quinn? Samantha has to decide who and what she is going to believe and then she has to decide how she is going to live her life. With or without Quinn.
Another Brilliant story of mystery and suspense.. where you can really only count on family.. at least those that the Wilde's consider family. You might figure out the who.. but figuring out the why.. totally different story and brilliantly done!!
